At the start of 2020, Covid-19 put sports on hold around the world. Harps trainings were cancelled from mid-March until June, and we looked to other GAA clubs for inspiration on how to stay fit and in touch with one another.
The goal we set was to run 1000 kilometers between us in the month of May, and from the 1st to the 31st, not a single day went by without a contribution from a Harps member.
Just a sampling of the highlights:
1113km run in total -- plus thousands more walked.
Jack C ran a marathon by himself–literally.
Eoghan F contributed all the way from County Galway in Ireland.
Laoise C made sure that the women were represented in the top 5 runners, accounting for 10% of the grand total by herself.
21 runners contributed data over the course of the month, but the top 10 runners were responsible for 962 of the 1113km.
My own contribution was limited, but it did include my first 5k and 10k runs since ACL surgery.
In the end, it was Brian P, one of the Harps founding members, who wound up on top of the leaderboard. Having retired from football and since focused on running, he logged over 230 kilometers all on his own. 🎉🎉
In addition to the members above, 1000K May was a success thanks to:
